This podcast comes from one of those situations in which you think you’re solid on a particular topic to only be reading the Word and have the Spirit show you and expose a deeper or new truth you completely missed or misunderstood. Because of that we ended up asking ourselves, what is stewardship and unpacking what the Bible says about it on this podcast. Stewardship is a word a lot of us throw around and use frequently. Specifically at Never Settle it’s even a core principle in our mission statement – yet as we unpack what the Bible says about it we realize there are some deeper truths and meanings we might be missing.
Specifically two things that dramatically stand out to us:
- Stewardship is about holding the position of a Steward – A steward is someone who has been placed in responsibility of their masters goods. For us that would be our physical talents, our time, and our finances. The main point here is that it’s all God’s we have simply been employed as stewards over it and it’s our responsibility to steward it well.
- That stewardship isn’t about maintaining or keeping something in good running condition – it’s about creating growth. While we used many examples here, the main one would be in Matt 25 and the parable of the talents / bags of gold. The steward who simply maintained and kept in perfect condition that which was given him was cast out, called wicked and lazy, and talent / gold was given to the one who multiplied his talents / gold. The underlining implication is that of creating growth or multiplication of that which was given to steward over.
