We created a mobile app compatible with multiple operating systems and devices for beginner Hebrew language students. The app focuses primarily on character recognition, names and pronunciation, and was designed to be easy to use. Practice, reference and quizzes were all built right into the app to help solidify the basic Hebrew alphabet concepts needed to move into more advanced study.
LACK OF OPTIONS
We designed and developed the Hebrew Flashcards app out of our own personal passion to learn the Hebrew language. After spending vast amounts of time searching the app store we found that true beginner tools were not available. Most apps we found were complicated and bloated in terms of features, ads, etc. With our paper flashcards wearing out, we decided to create our very own flashcards app to learn the Hebrew alphabet for the true beginner that was easy to use and consume.
A STARTING PLACE
We created a simple flashcard app that focused on character recognition, names and pronunciation. We wanted to provide users various options in which they could consume the Hebrew alphabet from casual practice sessions to timed quizzes. We were able to create a simple app that is easy to use and a great entry point into reading, writing and speaking the Hebrew language and accessible through your mobile phone or tablet device.
WHAT THE CLIENT HAD TO SAY
“ In elementary Hebrew and this app is making the first 2 chapters a breeze! Thank you truly for this app. It is helping me tremendously. ”
MORE THAN JUST THE ALPHABET
We wanted to be sure that this app was more than a quick run through of the alphabet/alephbet characters. Users can reference every character and see multiple script types. With our quick and easy to use reference screen users would have a powerful reference tool in their hand when practicing reading, writing and speaking the Hebrew language. Script types include book, block, cursive and ancient if applicable. We even added a view to see them side by side. We created a practice mode that allows for randomization as well as hiding characters until users are ready to see the full details This allows for a more casual and focused practice session.
Mobile iOS Development
Mobile devices seemed like the perfect target for a flashcards app. With so many ways to learn this wonderful language we wanted to do our best to really supply users with options to learn at their own pace and style. To not overwhelm the user we omitted vowels and special characters, or sofits, until the user is ready to inject them into their studies and practice. Being a beginner in any language can be tough and many tools can be bloated. We hope this app will help many embark on the adventure of learning the Hebrew language!
